Leading the Way in K-12 Distance Education

Since K-12 Education is my area, I decided to look up online innovations for this field. The innovations I found were quite interesting. Take a look.....

Pearson Education is known worldwide. This corporation leads the pack in many areas of education. I never knew that they had any online programs. When I think of Pearson Education, I think of my textbooks that I had in Elementary School. This company has went above and beyond the textbook. Pearson Education now has a Digital Learning department. This department has 5 different innovative programs that are the first of their kind.

(1) Waterford Early Reading Program - motivates and moves first grade students at their own pace.

(2) SuccessMaker - "offers a powerful combination of management system, assessment, and curriculum resources to provide administrators, teachers, and students with tools to improve academic performance." SuccessMaker is wonderful! I have had first-hand experience with this program. The school I have worked in the past two years uses this program. It is a great intervention tool that helps track a students weaknesses and gains.

(3) ELLIS - Helps move your English Language Learners towards basic English fluency.

(4) KnowledgeBox - is a "digital learning system for reading/language arts, math, science, and social studies, KnowledgeBox seamlessly delivers a wealth of instructional media designed specifically to help meet the varied needs of learners in 21st Century classrooms."

(5) NovaNET - "Designed for grades 6-12, NovaNET is a comprehensive, online courseware system that meets countless needs. From delivering thousands of hours of research and standards-based, interactive curriculum, to integrated assessment and student management, NovaNET is an all-inclusive system that delivers a return on investment quickly. "

These unique online innovations for the K-12 field are truly amazing! I can't wait to find out what else is out there. All of this is just from one corporation! More to come.....

Distance Learning in K-12 Education

The few things that I know already about distance education within the K-12 School system are listed below.
  • Students can go to a virtual classroom everyday instead of a traditional school
  • Students are now offered more online programs through University's while in High School for college credit.
  • If students cannot pass a course in high school, they have the option of taking it through Florida Virtual Schools.
  • Schools that may not be able to assist Gifted children within a normal classroom setting, are now able to assist these students by certain programs on the Internet that challenge these students.
  • There are thousands of websites available for Elementary and High School students to use to help or challenge them in the school subject of their choice.

The facts above I have lived or have learned about throughout the past few years. I cannot wait to find out more about the Distance Education opportunities available for these students!

The links below are of interesting websites that tap on each of the different aspects of distance education within the K-12 spectrum.
